Who is Jillea?
Hi! I'm a costume designer and whimsical artist with over 12 years of experience in the industry. I started out as a musician, but my passion for over-the-top fashion, stage performance, and artistic expression led me to naturally pivot into professional cosplay and costume design. I've made a name for myself with bold, inventive designs using unconventional materials—like the iconic Diet Coke can corset I created for Julia Fox, which gained worldwide attention.
My work has been featured in major outlets like Vogue Germany and Teen Vogue. I’ve become a go-to designer for celebrity Halloween costumes, often landing my pieces on the best-dressed lists, especially at Heidi Klum’s famous Halloween party. With a keen eye for detail and a knack for creating both imaginative and wearable pieces while thinking outside the box, I continue to push boundaries and captivate audiences with my creativity and whimsical approach to costume design and cosplay.

This course includes 45 in-depth video lessons with over 7 hours of creative instruction, designed to elevate your costume builds into fully realized, head-to-toe performance and burlesque creations.
In the Showstopper: Performance Costume Design Course you’ll learn how to transform foundational materials into bold, custom costume elements with a focus on elegance, drama, and visual impact. You’ll design and build sculptural costume components, refined bodice structures, and supportive elements that enhance silhouette, comfort, and stage presence.
The course explores luxury surface techniques and layered finishes that bring depth, shimmer, and movement to your designs. You’ll work with sculptural materials, paint layering, metallic accents, and high-glam embellishments such as rhinestones and feathers to create luminous, light-catching details.
You’ll also learn how to design dramatic headpieces and integrated costume elements that feel cohesive and intentional—whether for performance, photoshoots, festivals, or statement events.
Finally, you’ll refine your entire look by perfecting fit, improving mobility, and polishing every detail, resulting in a wearable, expressive costume that balances romance, structure, and theatrical spectacle. This self-paced course is ideal for creatives ready to push their craftsmanship into a more glamorous, confident, and elevated direction.
In my course, you will learn:
Module 1: Enter the Spotlight
An introduction to high-impact performance style design. Set the tone, explore big-picture concepts, and learn how to think strategically about materials and budget while designing for movement, drama, and impact.
Module 2: Design & Creative Testing
Begin your costume journey by developing designs, digital or physical, that can later become SVGs or stencils to guide your builds throughout the course. Explore creative testing with mixed materials to experiment, problem-solve, and understand how ideas translate before committing.
Module 3: Statement Headpiece Foundations
Construction commences. Focus on building the structural foundation of a bold statement headpiece with an emphasis on modular construction. Create patterns from scratch while exploring shape, balance, comfort, and durability, and build components that can be adapted, adjusted, and reconfigured as your design evolves.
Module 4: Headpiece Assembly & Dramatic Detailing
Bring your headpiece together as you move from structure to statement. This module focuses on layering, assembly, and expressive detailing using fabric, feathers, rhinestones, and gold gilding. You’ll also incorporate a hand-crafted, battery-powered cathedral prop, or a statement prop of your choice, to fully realize your design.
Module 5: Performance Props: Stained Glass Show Fans
Explore stained glass–inspired techniques through the creation of performance props designed for movement, light, and visual impact. This module uses your hand-drawn SVGs from Module 2 to create clean, repeatable shapes, introducing Cricut and Cricut Design Space as optional tools. You’ll also learn how to adapt these designs using makerspaces or stencil-based methods if cutting technology isn’t available.
Module 6: Performance Props: Stained Glass Corset
Apply stained glass–inspired techniques to a wearable statement piece using clear plastics, mixed faux leathers, and resin. This module explores transparent, layered design while incorporating quick-change considerations like hidden zippers and faux corset construction, balancing visual impact with comfort, function, and performance flow.
Module 7: Elevated Soft Goods
This is where your costume is fully realized from head to toe. No design element is left unturned as you customize or fabricate accessories like gloves, garters, and chokers, construct a caged mermaid skirt from scratch, and completely transform performance bottoms into something unrecognizable from their original form. This module focuses on refinement, cohesion, and pushing every soft element to match the impact of your overall design.
Module 8: Pushed to Perfection
Bring everything together in the final stretch. This module focuses on refinement, last-minute adjustments, and design decisions that elevate your costume from complete to show-ready, ensuring every detail supports your performance vision.
